How to Open a Port on Your VPS

Opening a port on your VPS is essential when you need to allow specific applications or services to communicate with the outside world. Follow these steps to configure your firewall rules to open a port using the KeepSec Dashboard.

Log in to your KeepSec Dashboard.

Navigate to Products > Compute > VPS.

Locate the VPS instance you want to configure.

Click on the three-dot menu ( ) on the right side of the VPS box.

Select Manage to open the VPS management page.

Click on the Networking tab on the VPS management page.

Scroll down to the IPv4 Firewall section.

Click + Add Rule in the IPv4 Firewall section.
- A form will appear where you can specify the firewall rule details.
- Application: Select a predefined application, or choose Custom to define your own.
- Protocol: Select TCP, UDP, or Both.
- Port(s): Enter the port number or range (e.g., 8443).
- Restrict Access (Optional): Enter specific IP addresses if you want to limit access.

Click Create to save your rule. The new rule should now appear in the list of firewall rules.

Example: Opening Port 8443

To open port 8443 to allow external access to an application running on your VPS:

- Go to the Networking tab for your VPS.
- Click + Add Rule.
- Set Application to Custom.
- Set Protocol to TCP.
- Enter 8443 in the Port or Range field.
- If needed, enter an IP address or range to restrict access.
- Click Create.
