# How to open a port on my VPS?

**How to Open a Port on Your VPS**

Opening a port on your VPS is essential when you need to allow specific applications or services to communicate with the outside world. Follow these steps to configure your firewall rules to open a port using the KeepSec Dashboard.

1. Log in to your KeepSec Dashboard.

2. Navigate to `Products > Compute > VPS`.

3. Locate the VPS instance you want to configure.

4. Click on the three-dot menu ( `⋮`) on the right side of the VPS box.

5. Select **Manage** to open the VPS management page.

6. Click on the **Networking** tab on the VPS management page.

7. Scroll down to the **IPv4 Firewall** section.

8. Click **+ Add Rule** in the **IPv4 Firewall** section.
   - A form will appear where you can specify the firewall rule details.
   - **Application**: Select a predefined application, or choose **Custom** to define your own.
   - **Protocol**: Select **TCP**, **UDP**, or **Both**.
   - **Port(s)**: Enter the port number or range (e.g., `8443`).
   - **Restrict Access (Optional)**: Enter specific IP addresses if you want to limit access.

9. Click **Create** to save your rule. The new rule should now appear in the list of firewall rules.

**Example: Opening Port 8443**

To open port `8443` to allow external access to an application running on your VPS:

- Go to the **Networking** tab for your VPS.
- Click **+ Add Rule**.
- Set **Application** to **Custom**.
- Set **Protocol** to **TCP**.
- Enter `8443` in the **Port or Range** field.
- If needed, enter an IP address or range to restrict access.
- Click **Create**.
